From 1927, René Lalique's "Dinard" box (Dinard is a French resort in Brittany) constitutes one of his largest (5.2" long, 4" wide, 4 tall) and heaviest (over 2 Lbs) because it is made of thick sculpted glass. The box's other name is "Roses" for obvious reasons (photo 6). This one works rather well as the handle is useful to remove and replace the top. The hallmark is below the silver leaf, too small to read or photograph. The box is perfect to display candy, chocolates or a pot-pourri, and the leaf-handle makes it easy to help oneself opening and closing the box. "Dinard" is repertoried and photographed in the large book by Felix Marcilhac, the unofficial "Lalique Bible", on page 237 of the 2011 French printing, under reference 78 (photo 12). The caption specifies that the box became out-of-stock in April 1939 and that it was never made again.

There is a double signature R LALIQUE in script and in block letters under the base (photos 10 and 11). The condition is overall quite good. There has been an accident near the rim, with a substantial chip resulting (photo 9) but due to the sculpted glass volume, it is not easily visible unless one aims at it with the camera like I did. Also, it is totally invisible when the lid is on. The box actually presents remarkably well.

There is no other damage and the price has been discounted to account for the chip. With the transformation and addition of the silver inlay, this is an interesting and unique piece.
